Success story: Single Reporting EDW
Challenge
A Large Telecom Company was running several applications with similar functionalities
and in most cases the same data were being captured to cater to the reporting needs
of various organizations. Due to this diversity, data obtained were either dated
or inconsistent to accurately depict the customer profile. Another challenge was
a considerable time lag between the reporting request and actual production of the
report. Off-the-shelf products were analyzed but proved unequal to the challenges
of response time and ease of customization.
SiUM
A new Enterprise Data Warehouse was conceptualized with a reporting application
on a common platform catering to the needs of all clients across organizations.
The 2-phase EDW solution had Teradata as host due to its robustness and response
times for large volume of data. SQL Server 2000 and Analysis Server 2000 along with
related business intelligence products from Microsoft were selected as the preferred
platform for reporting. A 30-member team from SiUM successfully implemented the
solution in 9 months.
